Small Business Owner - I own a training and development company, www.IowaLeadershipAcademy.com. This gives me first-hand knowledge in what it takes to successfully manage a business, pay commercial taxes and make tough financial decisions. This experience will serve me well in making wise fiscal decisions on behalf of Ankeny taxpayers.
In this role, I provide executive guidance on strategic planning, leadership and corporate performance management. This provides me with a broad understanding of what it takes to lead, engage and inspire employees to outperform the competition. This same philosophical approach can be applied to local government allowing increased efficiency and effectiveness. This reduces the tax burden on you.
Prior to opening my own business in the Spring of 2007, I spent 16 years in corporate America, the last five in an executive capacity for a leading insurance company. In this role, I was responsible for all operational and customer facing systems and processes. In this capacity, I gained valuable experience in zero-based budgeting and outstanding corporate performance management. These were cornerstone principles and we were extremely successful as a result of it. This real-word business experience will serve me well in city governance.
My wife Julie and I have been married for 17 years. We are Iowa natives, both graduating from Winterset High School. Julie works at Ingersoll-Rand as an HVAC Coordinator.
Julie and I have lived in Ankeny since 2000 and have raised our two children here. Our daughter is currently a freshman at Northview Middle School and our son, a fifth grader at Crocker Elementary.
I have a BA from Simpson College in Marketing and a Masters Degree from Drake in Adult Learning and Organizational Performance. This masters has twin concentrations of Leadership and Training/Development.
