As a community leader, I must lead by example. I will take full responsibility for my actions on council and expect those in city government to do the same.
As Steven Covey would say "Seek first to understand, then be understood." I will commit the necessary time to research and understand an issue and THEN make an informed decision that most greatly benefits the citizens of Ankeny.
Making tough fiscal decisions are part of the job. It is easy to say "yes" to everyone and be the good guy. However, I believe it is prudent to say no if you cannot afford it. That is how the majority of people run their household and our government should be no different. I understand the difference between a "need" and a "want" and will govern accordingly.
All government actions must be transparent to instill trust and confidence in its elected officials. To do this, I am committed to engaging citizens in a variety of communication methods. This website is my first step in creating a dialogue with the citizens of Ankeny.
I will work to build consensus within the council, with the mayor, city manager and other governing bodies.
